Yankees Consider First Alternate Road Jerseys

The New York Yankees, a franchise known for its iconic and largely unchanged uniform set, may soon be adding an alternate road jersey to their lineup. According to a recent report from The Athletic, players have approached management with a proposal to introduce a new look for their away games, suggesting the use of their navy batting practice jerseys instead of the traditional gray road uniforms.

The navy jerseys, which prominently feature "New York" across the chest in gray letters with white trim, have been a staple during Spring Training but have yet to make an appearance in regular-season games. This potential change reflects a growing desire among players for a fresh take on the team's attire, which has remained consistent for decades.

Owner Hal Steinbrenner, who has shown some willingness to embrace change—such as lifting the long-standing ban on facial hair last season—will ultimately make the final decision regarding the new jerseys. The grooming policy, which had been in place since the 1970s, was a legacy of his father, George Steinbrenner.

In 2024, the Yankees made minor adjustments to their road uniforms at the request of team captain Aaron Judge, opting for a more retro style by removing white outlining and sleeve trim. This change was reminiscent of the uniforms worn during the 2023 Field of Dreams Game.
