Bangladesh's Nahid Rana Wins ICC Player of the Month Award

Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2026 following an outstanding series against New Zealand. Rana's performances were crucial in helping Bangladesh secure a memorable ODI series victory over New Zealand, where he claimed eight wickets in three matches.

In addition to his feats against New Zealand, Rana had also taken eight wickets in an earlier ODI series against Pakistan in March. His significant contributions across these back-to-back series made him the standout performer among the nominees for the month.

This award marks the first ICC monthly accolade of Rana's career and makes him the first Bangladeshi player to receive the men's honor since Mehidy Hasan Miraz achieved this recognition in April last year.

Rana’s series against New Zealand began on a challenging note; in the first ODI, he only managed one wicket while conceding 65 runs. However, the right-arm pacer rebounded remarkably in the second match, taking five wickets for 32 runs, marking his second five-wicket haul in ODIs. His exceptional bowling led to New Zealand being restricted to 198 runs as Bangladesh leveled the series.

Rana continued his excellent form in the decisive match in Chattogram, securing two more wickets to help Bangladesh clinch the series 2-1. He concluded the series with an impressive average of 16.75 and an economy rate of 4.46, earning both Player of the Series and the ICC monthly award.

Reacting to his special recognition, Rana expressed that the honor was particularly meaningful due to his performances against a top-tier team on home soil. "It’s a great feeling to be named the ICC Player of the Month after performing well against a world-class side like New Zealand," he commented. "To deliver on home soil made the series even more special. It was a series I will always cherish."

At just 23 years old, Rana's rapid rise suggests that Bangladesh may have found their next pace spearhead for the future.
