Xabi Alonso has agreed terms with Chelsea for the 2026-27 season after interest from AC Milan. The 44-year-old coach, who is currently out of work, had been linked to Milan; however, Italian reports suggest he is now close to Chelsea. Multiple sources are confident that he has reached an agreement with the Premier League side.
Previously, Xabi Alonso's tenure with Real Madrid ended abruptly on January 12 after a sudden dismissal. During his time at the club, he oversaw 20 wins, three draws, and five defeats, but conflicts with the players led to his sacking. He is eager to return to the managerial scene.
Before his stint with Real Madrid, Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to a domestic Treble, although they were denied the Europa League title after a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the 2024 final. Earlier this month, he was mentioned as a candidate for the Milan job if Max Allegri was to be sacked, as he had been approached in the past. However, reports indicated that Chelsea was in the lead for his signature.
French journalist Fabrice Hawkins from RMC Sport has confirmed that Chelsea has come to an agreement with the Spanish coach regarding personal terms for the upcoming season. Alonso is no stranger to the Premier League, having played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009.
