Fouts leads Talons to 2nd straight AUSL championship

Utah Talons won their second consecutive AUSL championship on July 26, 2026, in a decisive 6-1 victory over the Chicago Bandits, effectively sweeping the AUSL's best-of-three championship series at Texas A&M’s Davis Diamond. Starting pitcher Montana Fouts delivered a complete game performance, overcoming eight singles by the Bandits, which marked a repeat of the league’s inaugural championship series in 2025 when the Talons also defeated the Bandits 1-0.

Teammate Bri Ellis, the AUSL Comeback Player of the Year, commented on the team’s improved offensive effort, noting the significant contributions from multiple players, including her own home run during the game. Utah’s Jadelyn Allchin initiated the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, followed by unearned runs in the fourth that extended the lead to 6-0 with solo homers from Ellis and Sahvanna Jaquish.

Despite the Bandits recording eight hits, solid defensive plays by the Talons prevented any significant scoring opportunities. Key defensive efforts included a diving catch by Allchin in left field and a running catch by center fielder Jayda Coleman. Bandits coach Shonda Stanton acknowledged the Talons' exceptional defensive capabilities, stating that their speedy outfield thwarted opportunities that other teams had capitalized on.

Talons coach Cindy Ball-Malone praised the team’s competitive spirit and the freedom in their batting practices, believing it set the tone for their performance. The team had a total of 10 hits, with their outfielders accounting for half of those, indicating strong offensive support for Fouts.

Fouts, named the AUSL Pitcher of the Year, showcased her skills, allowing the Bandits just one run, which came after she walked the leadoff batter in the final inning. She noted the need to be more intentional with her pitch locations throughout the game, understanding the Bandits’ batting strength and preparing to counter effectively.

The game began with a brief delay as the Bandits' starting pitcher Kat Sandercock requested maintenance on the field near her pitching foot. Nonetheless, it was the Talons who struck first with Coleman almost hitting a homer that was ruled foul, followed by Allchin's successful two-run shot over the right-field fence.

With this championship win, the Talons not only solidified their title but also positioned themselves favorably for potential success in the following season.
