Analyst Benedict Vilakazi of iDiski TV has indicated that Emile Witbooi could be a suitable replacement for Relebohile Mofokeng, who recently transferred to Belgian Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from Orlando Pirates. Vilakazi noted that the 17-year-old Witbooi has made a significant impression since entering the professional scene and has become a vital member of the South African U17 national team.
Reports have linked Witbooi to a transfer to Pirates during the current window, with an estimated fee around R20 million.
Vilakazi acknowledged Witbooi's potential but emphasized that the reported transfer fee is excessive given his lack of experience at the highest level. "I think the boy has got qualities," Vilakazi remarked on iDiski TV. "He’s a good player, especially in that number 10 position, he can fill in well for Mofokeng. However, I cannot go for more than R10 million; I can’t.
Looking at his career, he hasn’t played at the highest levels where I could justify R15 million. He hasn’t proven that he can support a large team. Having experience myself in South African football, I believe R10 million is already a stretch, considering he needs time to develop further.
It is going to take time for him to take on responsibilities that players like Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis, and Tshepang Moremi have handled effectively. Therefore, I stand firm on negotiating below R10 million."
