Bournemouth pursues Tiago Gabriel after strong Lecce season
Newsroom

Bournemouth targeted Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel following his impressive performance during the 2025-26 season. Reports indicate that the club sent scouts to observe him multiple times throughout the season. The 21-year-old has made six appearances for Portugal at the youth level and played a crucial role in helping Lecce avoid relegation on the final day of the season.
Tiago Gabriel joined Lecce from Estrela Amadora in January 2025 for €1.25m plus add-ons, becoming one of the emerging talents noted by the club's director of sport, Pantaleo Corvino. Throughout the 2025-26 Serie A campaign, Gabriel contributed two goals from his position in central defense across 37 appearances.
Sky Sport Italia's transfer expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, reported that Bournemouth is intent on signing Gabriel to strengthen their squad in the Premier League. Despite having a contract that runs until June 2027, Lecce has an option to extend it for another two years. Nevertheless, sources suggest Bournemouth believes they can secure the defender on loan with an option to purchase at the end of the season.
Additionally, there had been previous interest in Gabriel from clubs such as Juventus and West Ham United prior to Bournemouth's pursuit.
