10 Players to Watch at the World Cup
Newsroom

As the World Cup approaches, Nick Bidwell highlights 10 players to keep an eye on this summer.
Musa AL-TAAMARI (Jordan)
With Yazan Al Naimat ruled out and Ali Olwan struggling with fitness, Jordan is counting on Al Tamari to lead their attack. The left-footed right winger is the only Jordanian playing in a top European league, consistently providing goals and assists for Rennes in France.
Esmir BAJRAKTAREVIC (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
The PSV winger, still just 21, often plays individually. However, when on form, he possesses the skills to threaten any defense. Bajraktarevic began his career at New England Revolution and represented the US at youth levels before joining the Bosnia camp in 2024.
Charles DE KETELAERE (Belgium)
With Romelu Lukaku dealing with injuries, De Ketelaere has the chance to lead the Belgian attack this summer. Normally an attacking midfielder for Serie A club Atalanta, he adapted well in the false nine role during World Cup qualifying, scoring three goals and providing three assists in five starts.
Yan DIOMANDE (Ivory Coast)
The 19-year-old has showcased exceptional dribbling skills as a winger for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, attracting interest from Liverpool. With Ivorian strikers struggling, Diomande's ability to score and create opportunities will be vital.
Aymen HUSSEIN (Iraq)
Despite World Cups rarely introducing unknown players, Iraq’s 30-year-old striker could surprise many with his aerial strength. Hussein boasts an impressive strike rate of 33 goals in 93 caps, including eight qualifiers for these finals.
Nestory IRANKUNDA (Australia)
This 20-year-old winger's success at Watford has made him a sought-after player. Born in a Tanzanian refugee camp, he honed his skills in Adelaide and had a spell with Bayern Munich’s B team, showing off his remarkable pace.
Johan MANZAMBI (Switzerland)
The Freiburg midfielder had an impressive debut for the national team in June 2025, contributing significantly to Switzerland's victory over the US. He aims to replicate that success in the upcoming World Cup.
MAURICIO (Paraguay)
Having switched international allegiances after his Paraguayan grandmother enabled his eligibility, Mauricio is seen by coach Gustavo Alfaro as a crucial organizer for Paraguay, making his debut in March.
DANILO SANTOS (Brazil)
Danilo, a 25-year-old midfielder, received a call-up to the Brazilian national team following his impressive performances in the Brazilian top flight, including a scoring streak of seven goals in ten games.
Luka VUSKOVIC (Croatia)
The teenage center-back is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur after a successful loan at Hamburg. At 15, he was one of the most scouted talents in Europe, making his professional debut for Hajduk Split at only 16, and he earned his first international cap last November.
