Martin Brundle Backs Lewis Hamilton for Ferrari Success

Former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle expressed confidence in Lewis Hamilton's potential to achieve success with Ferrari in the ongoing 2026 F1 Championship season. Hamilton, who joined Ferrari in 2025, is showing promise as the team looks to improve on its past performance.
While Ferrari finished fourth in the constructors' standings last season, the team has quickly found its footing in the new season, currently positioned second in the 2026 constructors' championship. Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc stand fourth and third in the drivers' standings, respectively.
Questions regarding Hamilton's performance last season have been addressed by Brundle, who noted that the upcoming technical regulations appear to better suit Hamilton's driving style compared to the previous ground effect cars. "Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more," Brundle stated. "Ferrari is more competitive now, and I think they will make significant strides as the Miami Grand Prix approaches. Lewis obviously prefers this type of car to the brutal ground effect models that didn't suit his style."
Moreover, Brundle emphasized Hamilton's current mood and sense of happiness, attributing it to Ferrari's improved competitiveness compared to last year. He remarked, "He just seems a lot happier because Ferrari is more competitive."
As Hamilton aims for the world championship, Brundle cautioned that he must outperform his teammate Leclerc and any competitors driving for other top teams. The analyst believes that with the right opportunity, Hamilton can secure victories, saying, "If there's a sniff of a victory, I think Lewis is still very much capable of taking that."
Heading into the Miami Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes leads the standings, closely followed by his teammate George Russell. Brundle believes that despite Mercedes' strong start, the championship remains wide open. He commented, "We have got a sprint weekend in Miami, so there are sprint points to be won, Grand Prix points available too. I see teams leapfrogging others with upgrades, with so much upside potential with these cars. Any of the top four teams could win this year's world championship."
Hamilton's performance in Miami will play a crucial role in shaping his championship aspirations, as he seeks to leverage Ferrari's competitiveness in the current season.
