Ferrari becomes first F1 team to test at Madring ahead of Spanish GP
Newsroom

Ferrari confirmed it would hold a filming day this week at the new venue for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, known as the Madring. The team's SF-26 car is set to become the first F1 car to navigate the Madrid street track on Thursday, prior to the inaugural grand prix scheduled for September 11-13. This new setup replaces Barcelona as the location for the Spanish GP.
During this session, designated as a ‘filming day’ in accordance with regulations, Ferrari will use the opportunity to gather crucial data while also offering the event organizers a chance to test the facility's readiness. The regulations allow for up to 200 kilometers of running, and drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are expected to participate.
This filming day comes on the heels of Ferrari's recent success, having secured its second victory of the 2026 season. Leclerc's win at Silverstone followed Hamilton's triumph at Barcelona and places them second in the championship standings, trailing Mercedes by 78 points.
One notable aspect of this filming session is the quick organization process undertaken by Ferrari, especially considering that the Madring was still an active construction site just a few days prior. The infrastructure works on grandstands and paddock facilities were ongoing, as shown during a media visit. However, the 5.416 km circuit layout, comprising 22 corners and a long banked section, has been completed in time to allow Ferrari to carry out the test. This opportunity is significant for both the Scuderia to build track knowledge and for the Madring organizers to verify the facility’s operations with an F1 car.
