British duo Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid secured their seventh Wimbledon men’s wheelchair doubles title as a partnership after overcoming Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez and Japan's Tokito Oda with a final score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Court One. Despite losing the first set, where Fernandez and Oda managed to break Hewett and Reid in all four of their service games, the Britons bounced back strongly. They won nine of the next ten games, establishing a 3-0 lead in the deciding set before clinching victory in what proved to be a high-quality final.
At 28 years old, Hewett and 34-year-old Reid also claimed the French Open title in June. Meanwhile, Fernandez and Oda hold the other two Grand Slam titles: the US Open and the Australian Open. The two players will meet again on Sunday in the men’s wheelchair singles final, where Oda, as the top seed and defending champion, seeks his third singles crown at SW19, and Hewett, the second seed, aims to add to his prior title won in 2024.
Reid reflected on the experience, stating, "It’s a dream come true to be able to play at our home Grand Slam on a court like this, with a crowd like this." Hewett acknowledged the challenge of the first set, mentioning, "When you’re on a court like this and everyone wants you to win, it can be a bit soul-destroying when you lose that set." He added, "It means the world. We’ve had so many finals here and 10 years ago we won our first one. Who would have thought that 10 years on, we’d be sat here with seven titles?"
