Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux was appointed on Thursday, October 29, as the new president of the Organizing Committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics, just seven weeks after the resignation of former mogul Edgar Grospiron. The appointment of the 64-year-old businessman marks a new chapter for the entity responsible for hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Alps, which has been hampered in recent months by a governance crisis that peaked with Grospiron’s departure on September 10.
"This is the job of a lifetime!" Roux de Bézieux declared during a brief statement to the press following his selection at an extraordinary general assembly held at the Committee's headquarters in Décines-Charpieu, near Lyon. "I approach this role with great enthusiasm. Personally, I experienced the two Olympic fortnights of Paris 2024 as a magical moment, and I would like to recreate that for our compatriots in 2030," he added.
Previously, Roux de Bézieux was already involved in the Organizing Committee for the Games, where he had led the remuneration committee since April. He was also a member of the board of directors for Paris 2024.
