Tunisia Faces Defeat Against Japan: Performance Criticized
Newsroom

Tunisia became the first African team eliminated from the World Cup after suffering a heavy defeat against Japan (4-0) on Saturday night. The appointment of new head coach Hervé Renard did not manage to rejuvenate the Eagles of Carthage.
After just three minutes of play, Tunisia conceded a goal, marking the beginning of a Japanese display that did not really surprise two Tunisian supporters at the scene, as reported by Victor Missistrano, a special envoy in Monterrey. "We did not expect much from this team, but being Tunisian, we always held on to hope..." However, this hope was short-lived.
No miracle occurred for Hervé Renard, as the response of pride he sought upon his arrival did not materialize. "We hoped for a more significant reaction, but unfortunately, tonight's score reflects the difference between the two teams," he admitted.
Even though not everyone believed in it, some supporters in Tunisia woke up early to watch the match in a fan zone. They were vocal about their disappointment. "I’m going to buy an Ivory Coast shirt and cheer for them instead!" uttered supporter Lilia Blaise. Unable to take a shot on target, Tunisia suffered another defeat after losing 5-1 to Sweden in their opening match.
"This is Tunisia's worst performance in World Cup history," lamented another supporter. Yet, this World Cup is not over yet as Tunisia has one final group match scheduled for Thursday against the Netherlands.
