Manchester City secures WSL title as Arsenal draws with Brighton

Manchester City became Women’s Super League champions for the second time in their history after Arsenal was held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton on May 6, 2026. City's victory marked their first league title in a decade, having previously clinched the WSL title in 2016. This season, City displayed powerful form, having finished fourth in the previous term, and maintained a dominant position at the top since November 9.

The City manager, Andrée Jeglertz, praised his players for tackling every challenge this season, stating, “Helping guide this team to the WSL title is something I will never forget.” Arsenal needed to win their remaining games to stay in contention for the title, but their lackluster performance against Brighton proved costly. Despite coming from a goal down to equalize through Frida Maanum, they did not secure the crucial victory due to a sluggish start and missed penalty opportunities.

Brighton, having achieved impressive results since mid-March, continued to defeat expectations, and their draw with Arsenal provided them with a confidence boost ahead of their upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool. Arsenal's coach Renée Slegers expressed disappointment in their performance, stating, "Congratulations to Man City who have now won the league. It was disappointing today."

Under Jeglertz's guidance, City proved to be a rejuvenated force.
