Christian Eriksen Home After Collapse, 'Doing Well'

Christian Eriksen has been discharged from the hospital and is reported to be "doing well" at home with his family following his collapse during a recent match against Ukraine. The 34-year-old player spent the night in the hospital after the incident that occurred in Odense, forcing the game to be stopped in the 65th minute and eventually abandoned. Following his collapse, Eriksen was able to walk from the field after regaining consciousness.

In an Instagram statement, Eriksen indicated that his "recovery has already started." He noted that this latest incident, while serious, was different from his cardiac arrest during the Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021, where he was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device designed to regulate heart rhythms.

The midfielder, who has played for prominent clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham, and Brentford, expressed gratitude for the support he received from players and medical staff after the incident. "As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major effect on both me and my family," he wrote. He emphasized his appreciation for the doctors who have monitored his heart over the years, stating, "Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it."

The ICD allowed Eriksen to resume his football career with Brentford in 2022, merely eight months after his cardiac event during the Euros, and subsequently he played three years for Manchester United. Regarding his recent scare, Morten Boesen, the Denmark national team doctor, remarked that "the pacemaker responded as it should."

Eriksen indicated his current focus is on recovering, enjoying time with his family, taking a vacation, and playing football with his children. He shared earlier that he holds no concerns about continuing to play with the ICD, claiming, "I don’t see any risk, no. I have an ICD; if anything would happen, then I am safe."

Notably, both Denmark and Ukraine did not qualify for the upcoming World Cup, which is set to commence on Thursday.
