Gusau Named Patron of Renewed Hope Unity Cup

The organizers of the Renewed Hope Unity Cup Football Competition held an investiture ceremony on Wednesday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, where Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and President of the WAFU-B zone, was named as the patron of the competition. The ceremony was officiated by Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, a former NFF Executive Committee Member and current Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association.

This strategic move is aimed at garnering additional support and fostering collaboration for the upcoming 2026 Renewed Hope Unity Cup competition. The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships and galvanizing support for a national initiative that emphasizes youth empowerment, unity, and talent development through sports.

The Renewed Hope Unity Cup is a groundbreaking competition designed to engage all 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria, bringing together young Nigerians through the power of football. Hon. Kwande, who is leading this initiative, introduced the project with a compelling statement, dubbing it “À Goal Nigeria,” which he described as a clear directive: “Asiwaju Go On And Lead Nigeria.” He emphasized that the competition is not just about identifying football talent but also about creating a platform for youth empowerment, fostering unity, and contributing to national development.

In response to his appointment, Gusau praised the competition as a “noble initiative” that aligns perfectly with the current NFF administration's mission to develop football from the grassroots level. "This is a welcome idea, and I am excited to be a patron of the initiative. The NFF will actively participate and closely monitor exceptional talents that can emerge from this competition and potentially join the various National Teams," he stated.
