A tornado alert forced the interruption of the training session for the national team in Chattanooga. The alarm sounded on the mobile phones of all journalists five minutes before the scheduled training session was set to begin on that Monday at 6 PM in Chattanooga. A tornado warning advised individuals to seek shelter "in a basement or in the interior of a room on the lowest level of a safe building."
The players took to the pitch but their session lasted only 20 minutes. According to the statement from the RFEF, "The training for the Spanish national team, after 20 minutes on the grass at Baylor School and following the storm safety protocol in the United States, has moved to the gym where the players have continued their preparations for the last group-stage match against Uruguay."
The strict protocol in place indicates that players and staff must seek shelter in the locker rooms if lightning is detected within a distance of 10 miles (16 km). Additionally, activities cannot resume until the lightning is more than 10 miles away and 30 consecutive minutes have passed without any electrical discharges.
