Gous and Ravindra lead Washington Freedom's victory

In a thrilling match, Washington Freedom triumphed over MI New York by five wickets, with a solid performance from Andries Gous and Rachin Ravindra. Gous scored 96 runs off 54 balls, while Ravindra contributed 60 runs from just 30 deliveries. Their partnership of 116 runs for the third wicket proved crucial for Freedom's successful chase of 188 runs set by MI New York, who posted a total of 187 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Nicholas Pooran, batting for MI New York, struck a powerful 86 runs off 44 balls, forming a significant partnership with Kunwarjeet Singh, who helped add 90 runs for the third wicket. However, after Pooran's dismissal in the 16th over, the MI batting lineup faltered, managing only 37 runs in the final five overs. Saurabh Netravalkar and Ben Dwarshuis each captured two wickets, finishing their spells with figures of 2 for 29.

In response, Washington Freedom faced early setbacks, losing openers Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel quickly, leaving them at 13 for 2. Despite the rocky start, Gous and Ravindra steadied the ship, with Gous particularly aggressive, hitting four fours and eight sixes. Although he fell four runs short of a century, his innings significantly pushed Freedom towards their goal.

Freedom reached their target in 18.3 overs, moving up to second place on the MLC 2026 points table. With both teams already qualified for the playoffs, this match held significant implications for the standings. The victory highlighted Washington Freedom's depth and resilience as they continued their campaign in major league cricket.
