WAFU B U20 Tourney: Flying Eagles to face Satellites in Yamoussoukro

In the WAFU B U20 Championship, Nigeria's Flying Eagles faced their rivals, the Black Satellites of Ghana, in a match reminiscent of the previous tournament's final. The competition took place in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, starting Monday, July 26, 2026. Previously, the Flying Eagles had emerged victorious against the Black Satellites at the Stade Kegue in Lome, Togo, in October 2024, winning 2-1 to reclaim the trophy they had initially secured in Niamey two years prior.

Under the guidance of Coach Isa Ladan Bosso, the Flying Eagles triumphed in Niamey, while Aliyu Zubairu played a pivotal role in their trophy retention in Lome. As the squad prepared to clash with Ghana, Coach Abdu Maikaba, a former assistant coach, expressed confidence in their strategy and motivation. "We are going for an outright victory against Ghana because our objective is to retain the trophy and we have to start winning our matches from Day One," Maikaba stated before the match.

The kickoff for this crucial encounter occurred at 2 PM local time (3 PM Nigeria time) at the Lycée Scientifique de Yamoussoukro. Ahead of this matchup, the Flying Eagles achieved a 2-1 victory over Athletique Club de Zenuola in a friendly match, further boosting their confidence.

The historical rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana spans back to 1951, showcasing numerous thrilling encounters across various competitions in both men's and women's football. A win for Nigeria would significantly enhance their prospects for reaching the semi-finals of the tournament, with upcoming matches against Togo and Burkina Faso also scheduled in Group B.
