Chiefs Confirm Departure of Young Defender Gopolang Taunyana

Newsroom

Kaizer Chiefs announced the departure of young defender Gopolang Taunyana on August 4, 2026. The 20-year-old player was part of the Amajita team that secured victories in the COSAFA and U20 Africa Cup of Nations. Taunyana initially gained attention as a teenager serving as a referee at Engen, but he soon demonstrated his abilities on the field as a player.

Recently, he had been competing with the Chiefs Reserves, who won the DStv Diski Challenge. However, on Tuesday, the club officially confirmed his exit, which has led to speculation regarding a potential transfer to Stellenbosch, as reported by Farpost.

In a statement, the club expressed gratitude towards Taunyana, stating, "Every journey begins with a dream, and today another chapter begins. Thank you, Gopolang Taunyana, for your dedication, commitment, and the passion you showed every time you wore the Kaizer Chiefs Reserves badge. It has been a privilege to be part of your journey, and we are proud to have watched you grow both as a player and as a person.

"As you take this next step in your career, know that you leave with our gratitude and best wishes. May this new opportunity bring continued growth, success, and many memorable moments on and off the pitch. All the very best in your new adventure, Gopolang."
