Rulani Mokwena's Al Ittihad Eliminated from Libyan Cup
Newsroom
Rulani Mokwena’s Al Ittihad SC faced elimination from the Libyan Cup after losing to their rivals Al-Ahli Tripoli on June 1, 2026. This loss marked another setback for Mokwena, who had aspirations for a successful campaign after taking over the team in March when they were at the top of the league and unbeaten.
Following Mokwena’s appointment, Al Ittihad secured three wins and a draw during the regular season. However, their playoff performance faltered as they suffered a defeat to Swehly and recorded two draws, resulting in the team falling out of the CAF inter-club competition spots. Swehly advanced to the Libyan Premier League final, where they were set to face Al-Nasr.
The defeat against Al-Ahli Tripoli, which ended 2-0 in the semi-final, extinguished Al Ittihad's last chance for silverware this season. Mokwena, previously associated with Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club, will now proceed to a break to recharge in preparation for the upcoming season.
