Beau Greaves Makes History with PDC Title Win

Beau Greaves made history by becoming the first woman to win a PDC ranking title, achieving the feat by defeating Michael Smith 8-7 in the Players Championship 11 final held in Milton Keynes. The 22-year-old secured victory with a remarkable 142 checkout in the final leg, concluding with a double 11. Throughout the match, Greaves demonstrated exceptional skill, including a 170 checkout in the ninth leg, and recorded an impressive 80% checkout success rate with an average score of 96.49.

Greaves had a stellar path to the final, overcoming former world champions Rob Cross and Gary Anderson in earlier rounds, triumphing 6-5 in the quarter-finals against Cross and then securing a decisive 7-1 victory over Anderson in the semi-finals. This victory marks a significant milestone in Greaves' career, as she previously achieved a remarkable 114-match winning streak in the PDC Women’s Series and became the first female player to hit a nine-dart finish on the PDC ProTour.

"I've had a great year, but I never thought I'd win one of these, never ever," remarked Greaves after her victory. "Today I played really well. I'm so happy, I can't even describe the way I feel. I feel so proud of myself. I beat Gary Anderson - I can't believe it. Even beating Michael - I'm beating players I watched growing up. Hopefully, I can kick on and keep doing it."

Other notable events during the tournament included world number two Luke Humphries being eliminated in the third round by Max Hopp with a score of 6-5, while Premier League Darts players Stephen Bunting and Josh Rock were knocked out in the first round. The event did not feature reigning world champion Luke Littler, who has yet to participate in a Players Championship this year, nor did other top players like Michael van Gerwen, Jonny Clayton, Gerwyn Price, and Nathan Aspinall.

With 34 Players Championship events taking place throughout the year, the final tournament will be held in Minehead, Somerset, from November 26 to 30, showcasing the top 64 players based on their performances during the season. Following her remarkable win, Greaves currently ranks fifth in the Players Championship order of merit.
