Cardoso's Reaction to Title Race Setback

Miguel Cardoso, the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has voiced his frustration following a disappointing draw against Stellenbosch in the Betway Premiership. In his post-match interview, Cardoso reflected on the missed opportunities that cost his team dearly. "What happened is a game completely under control. Many occasions to make the second goal, we didn’t score," he stated on SuperSport TV. He emphasized that the team could only blame themselves for the result, pointing out that their failure to convert chances and the unnecessary penalty were pivotal moments in the match.

Cardoso expressed his disappointment with the team's approach, stating, "We were completely in control, there was no danger on that action. And we were reckless, very reckless the way we made that approach and we gave a penalty to the opponent. We can only complain on us, nothing more."

When questioned about complacency being a factor in the draw, Cardoso firmly denied this notion, appearing irritated by the line of questioning. "No, no, no don’t confuse things. The team tried and had more chances to finish the game. The situation that happened for the penalty is an individual approach, which is completely reckless, nothing more," he insisted.

He acknowledged the youth of the player involved in the penalty incident, noting that while he had performed well in previous matches, he needed to learn how to manage critical moments in games. "Four days ago he made a fantastic match on another level. But of course you cannot approach a situation like this when the game is about to finish, four minutes to the end of the match, the game completely under control," Cardoso added.

As the season progresses, Sundowns will need to regroup and focus on converting their chances if they hope to remain competitive in the title race.
