Gloucester CEO Alex Brown Confirms Ongoing Investment Talks

Gloucester CEO Alex Brown stated that there are ongoing discussions regarding new investment in the Premiership club. The Cherry and Whites reported a rise in losses in their latest financial results for the year ending June 2025, which increased from £516,355 to £2.91 million.

Brown mentioned to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, "There is interest in Gloucester Rugby but our shareholders and board are very sensitive to who that investment might be. It has to be right for the club, for the future, and we'll take every opportunity that comes but there are talks going on about further investment."

In May 2026, Gloucester owner Martin St Quinton expressed to the BBC that there was "more appetite" for investment in Premiership rugby since the formal removal of promotion and relegation for the 2026-27 season. Over the prior year, three out of the ten clubs in the league had secured significant investment, including Newcastle's acquisition by energy drinks company Red Bull, Bath receiving backing from billionaire James Dyson, and Exeter Chiefs being bought by Bournemouth football owners Black Knight.

Despite the significant increase in losses, Brown reassured fans, stating, "I don't think there's any concern with Gloucester Rugby's health." He attributed the financial performance to several factors, such as issues related to central revenue from the Rugby Football Union and the renewal of the academy license, which recurs every twenty years.

Brown expressed optimism about the future, noting, "There are prospects in the future for sure but we've just got to concentrate on what's in front of us: a new group of players, a great new coaching team, and I think we'll see a great performance on the field."

Gloucester had a challenging 2025-26 season, finishing eighth, with a disheartening string of nine losses in their first ten Premiership games. However, they overhauled their coaching staff in the spring, hiring Chris Boyd and Rob Burgess, and moving George Skivington from a director of rugby role to head coach.

Additionally, the summer transfer window saw new players such as Wales captains Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan join the squad. Brown concluded, "I feel like we've got a really complete team now and for the first time in a long time I feel like not just on-field, off-field as well we've got some really strong leaders. Across the board, we're in a good spot."
