WAFU B U20 Championship: Flying Eagles to Face Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso

Newsroom

The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 boys' football team, were drawn to play against Ghana's Black Satellites, Togo's Junior Sparrow Hawks, and Burkina Faso's Young Stallions in the group phase of the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship. This tournament is set to take place in Cote d'Ivoire, where the draw occurred on July 15, 2026. The Flying Eagles are placed in Group B, while the hosts Cote d'Ivoire, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic comprise Group A.

Head Coach Abdu Maikaba, along with 23 players, will be departing Nigeria on Monday next week. The team aims to secure one of WAFU B’s two tickets to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be held in Ghana.

The Flying Eagles, who are seven-time African champions and two-time FIFA World Cup silver-medallists, currently hold the title of defending champions of the WAFU B U20 Championship. They achieved this status after defeating Ghana’s Black Satellites 2-1 in the final of the last edition of the competition, held in Lome in 2024.
