Napoli report concerning injury updates on Alisson and Meret

Napoli revealed injury updates on Alisson Santos and Alex Meret following their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on September 9, 2026. Max Allegri provided significant insights regarding the players' conditions after the match, stating, "We’ll be without Alisson Santos for a while; I’m not sure about Alex Meret."

Napoli faced an injury crisis heading into the UEFA Champions League opener, already missing players such as Scott McTominay, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, Alessandro Buongiorno, Luca Marianucci, and Giovane. Additionally, Noa Lang was left out due to disciplinary issues, while David Neres was only fit to sit on the bench.

During the first half of the match, Meret began to experience difficulties with an adductor problem in his left thigh and was subsequently replaced for the second half by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. Alisson Santos, on the other hand, limped off the pitch during the latter part of the match.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Italia after the match, Allegri expressed his concern, saying, "I think we’ll be without Alisson for a while; I’m not sure about Meret, we’ll have to see tomorrow what the tests say."

Milinkovic-Savic, who replaced Meret, had been Napoli's first-choice goalkeeper last season under Antonio Conte, but had been replaced by Meret this season. This match marked his first appearance under Allegri.

Furthermore, Kevin De Bruyne and Billy Gilmour had their first starts of the campaign and played the full 94 minutes, creating uncertainty regarding their fitness for the next Serie A match against Bologna.
