Faf du Plessis became the oldest centurion in T20 history as the Texas Super Kings (TSK) commenced their season with a significant six-wicket victory over the Seattle Orcas. TSK chased down a target of 221 runs with nine balls to spare, concluding the match at 221 for 4 in 18.3 overs.
Du Plessis, aged 41 years and 340 days, broke the record previously held by Paul Collingwood set in 2017. He reached his century off just 45 balls and remained not out at 113 runs, scored from 52 balls. His inning included eight fours and six sixes, anchoring TSK’s successful chase. He was ably supported by Rilee Rossouw, who contributed a brisk 49 runs off 21 balls, forming a 95-run partnership for the second wicket with du Plessis in just 37 deliveries. Wiaan Mulder added a quick-fire 31 runs off 15 balls to help push TSK across the finish line.
The chase was characterized by a rapid scoring rate that starkly contrasted with the Seattle Orcas' innings. Tim Seifert scored an impressive 104 runs, his sixth T20 hundred; however, it required him 66 balls to achieve this milestone. His opening partner, Shayan Jahangir, scored 78 runs off 47 balls, and together they posted a formidable 191-run partnership in 17.2 overs, providing Seattle a competitive score of 220 for 2 after opting to bat first.
On the bowling front for TSK, Nandre Burger stood out, conceding only 27 runs in four overs, including an economical 19th over which yielded just eight runs, adding pressure during the Orcas' innings. The match showcased a combination of seasoned performances from TSK with du Plessis undoubtedly being the star performer.
