Iwobi, Akpan join Super Eagles camp in Lisbon before Portugal clash

Alex Iwobi and Christian Akpan joined the Super Eagles camp in Lisbon as the team prepares for a friendly match against Portugal. On Thursday, team officials confirmed that 19 players traveled from Poland to Portugal after Nigeria’s recent friendly in Warsaw. Despite this boost, striker Rafiu Durosinmi was excused from the trip to address personal matters.

Iwobi's presence is expected to enhance Nigeria’s midfield options ahead of the encounter. Meanwhile, Akpan aims to impress Head Coach Eric Chelle as he evaluates both established players and emerging talents within the squad. Additional support is anticipated on Friday with the arrival of winger Samuel Chukwueze.

The friendly against Portugal, set for next Wednesday in Leiria, represents Nigeria’s second match in this international window. It also provides Coach Chelle an opportunity to further develop his team in light of recent performances across Europe.
