Urban Meyer Highlights Ohio State's NFL Draft Prospects

As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, all eyes are on Ohio State, a program renowned for producing top-tier talent. Former Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer recently shared insights on three standout players who are likely to be selected early in the draft, emphasizing their unique skills and potential impact in the NFL.

Meyer, who joined Colin Cowherd on "The Herd," highlighted linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, along with wide receiver Carnell Tate, all of whom are projected to be top-10 picks. Meyer expressed particular enthusiasm for Reese, noting his exceptional athleticism and versatility. "The guy is only 20 years old," Meyer remarked. "He’s an absolute freak. A lot of it obviously depends on the organization and what they’re going to run, but Arvell Reese can play safety, that's what I heard. When you watch him run around, that’s how fast and athletic he is."

Reese's potential as a game-changer is underscored by his ability to blitz effectively and adapt to various defensive roles. Meyer believes that with the right development, Reese could become one of the draft's biggest steals. "He’s a great blitzer, especially from standing up," Meyer added. "If you develop him, he’s 20 years old and at some point I would imagine they’ll teach and put their hand in the ground and be one of the best pass rushers out there. I don’t know how you don’t take Arvell Reese as soon as you get him on an NFL roster."

While Reese's potential is impressive, Meyer is particularly high on Sonny Styles, whom he believes possesses a winning mentality that can transform an NFL locker room. "I felt strong about Sonny Styles and his performance at the combine and his workouts have been historical," Meyer stated. "I’m biased because I know about this kid. I know what he is. I know what a locker room player is, and he’s a winner in everything he does. I’m very high on Sonny Styles."

In addition to the defensive standouts, Meyer also discussed Carnell Tate, who brings significant upside as a wide receiver. Despite some concerns about his game, Meyer is confident that Tate is the best receiver in this year's draft class. "He was a one-year wonder," Meyer explained. "You kind of heard about him and everybody wanted to see him develop. He was a guy that you weren’t really sure about being a first-rounder, but that’s what happens with young players. He is, without question, the best receiver in the draft."
