Prosper Narteh Ogum confident Black Starlets can beat any team

Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed confidence in his team ahead of Ghana’s opening match at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Ghana began their Group D campaign against Algeria on May 14, 2026, at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Narteh Ogum praised the quality and unity within his squad, stating that the team was capable of competing against any opponent in the tournament. "This team has a good balance of talent, discipline, teamwork and determination. The players understand each other very well, and they are prepared to fight for one another on the pitch," he told CAFOnline.

The former Asante Kotoko coach also highlighted the team’s steady progress both tactically and mentally ahead of the competition. "Technically, we have quality, tactically we are improving steadily, and mentally the players are showing maturity. These qualities give us confidence that we can compete strongly against any team in the tournament," he added.

The Black Starlets were also set to face Senegal and South Africa in their remaining Group D fixtures. Ghana targeted a strong run at the tournament while also seeking qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
