Tuckwell Leads in Final Mountain Stage of Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

In the final stage of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, taking place from Beaufort to Plateau de Solaison, Luke Tuckwell led the pack heading into a decisive mountain test on June 14, 2026. This concluding stage spans 120 kilometers and features four significant climbs that posed considerable challenges for the cyclists.

Prior to the final stage, the General Classification revealed an intense competition. Alex Baudin of EF Education-EasyPost maintained the yellow jersey from stage 1, following a victorious performance. However, after stage 6, Tuckwell, representing Red Bull, assumed the lead, demonstrating strong potential as a General Classification rider. Despite having finished second in the Giro Next Gen last year, Tuckwell sought to secure his first senior-level race victory in this stage.

The race seemed wide open as it progressed. Initially, seven riders formed a breakaway in the early kilometers, establishing a narrow lead of ten seconds. Among them were Braz Afonso, Georg Steinhauser, Laurens de Plus, and Carlos Rodriguez, but they faced fierce competition from the main peloton.

Around mid-race, as they began the Montée de Bisanne and approached the climbs, the peloton had begun to close in, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. UAE Team Emirates took control for Isaac Del Toro, with UAE's Benoît Cosnefroy leading the charge. At the same time, the breakaway's advantage diminished to just over a minute as the race approached its crucial moments.

As the cyclists tackled the steep ascents, notable incidents unfolded. Paul Seixas from Decathlon CMA CGM had a tough day, ultimately abandoning after crashing the previous day and struggling to keep pace. Bouchard managed to reconnect with the breakaway despite the rising intensity.

Entering the final climbs, Matthew Skjelmose stood in 7th place, maintaining a two-minute distance from Tuckwell, indicating a fierce contest for the overall classification. Juan Ayuso and Isaac Del Toro were considered strong contenders, while Tobias Halland Johannessen also aimed for the highest possible placement, having climbed to 5th the day prior.

Tuckwell's ability to maintain his lead throughout the race demonstrated his resilience, especially against talented competitors. With every passing kilometer on the treacherous climbs, the concluding showdown for overall victory was poised to become one of the most thrilling in recent memory.
