INDYCAR Silly Season Tracker: Rahal Sells Charter To Dreyer & Reinbold

The 2026 INDYCAR Silly Season is seeing significant movement among top drivers, with many notable names switching teams after the season ends. This includes six-time series champion and 2008 Indianapolis 500 winner Scott Dixon, along with the 2026 Indy 500 champion Felix Rosenqvist, both heading to Arrow McLaren. The team confirmed their hiring on July 6 while also announcing the release of drivers Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel, effective at the season's conclusion.

In another major development on July 22, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) revealed the sale of one of its charters to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, marking the first charter transaction since the charter system was implemented in 2025. As a result of this sale, RLL will scale down its fleet from three cars to two, leaving one of its current drivers without a ride for 2027.

The offseason buzz continues as Dixon prepares to leave Chip Ganassi Racing after 24 remarkable seasons. In a statement dated July 2, Ganassi expressed gratitude for Dixon's extensive contributions, acknowledging their shared successes in championships and victories. Dixon stated on July 3 that his decision to join McLaren was difficult yet necessary, expressing excitement about being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy and the team's future.

McLaren's CEO Zak Brown articulated ambitions for the team, aiming for a triple crown win across the Indianapolis 500, the Grand Prix of Monaco, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With a robust lineup featuring Dixon, Rosenqvist, current driver Pato O'Ward, and former Indy 500 champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, Brown believes they have a strong chance for success moving forward.

Meanwhile, Marcus Armstrong confirmed on July 3 that he would remain with Michael Shank Racing for the 2027 season, maintaining his role in the MSR No. 60 car.

As of now, looking ahead to 2027, current standings reveal Chip Ganassi Racing's Alex Palou and David Malukas solidly positioned within their team, while Dixon's exit leaves a significant void. Lundgaard is a leading candidate for Dixon's seat, while competitors like Scott McLaughlin and Josef Newgarden are stable in their positions. At Andretti Global, the future of Marcus Ericsson remains uncertain while other drivers appear secure.

Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel have departed, with Lundgaard projected to be a strong candidate for a position at Ganassi. Siegel's options may include potential partnerships with teams such as Foyt or Dale Coyne Racing.
