Club Divertido Lugo Thrives: Leader, Undefeated, and Best Team in Primera RFEF
Newsroom

Club 'Divertido' Lugo is enjoying a successful start to the season, having accumulated 19 points out of a possible 21 and recently taking the top spot from UD Logroñés. The Lugo football team celebrated their victory and current leadership position with fans. Despite the conclusion of the San Froilán festivities, the team's performance on the pitch has kept the spirit high.
Lugo football is currently at the top of the Primera RFEF standings. At the same time, the Breogán basketball team is also celebrating, having achieved a streak of victories in the Liga Endesa, marking a record as the first team in 41 years to score over 100 points in three consecutive matches.
Following their relegation to Primera Federación in 2023 after 11 years in professional football, many expected Lugo to return swiftly to the second division. However, they have struggled in the past three seasons, finishing 10th in 2023-24, 13th in 2024-25, and 9th in 2025-26. On the recent matchday, Lugo defeated UD Logroñés 3-1, which pushed them into the leading position, making them the most formidable team in the league with the highest points tally, an undefeated record, and the fewest goals conceded.
Lugo has won six out of seven matches, with their only draw occurring in Ponferrada, where they felt they deserved more. Their current 19/21 record matches the best start in Primera Federación history, previously achieved by teams such as Castellón, Tenerife, and Villarreal B, with all but one team (the jienenses) eventually securing promotion.
Borja Fernández, the manager, emphasizes the importance of remaining level-headed. As a former player for Real Madrid and Real Valladolid, he has made significant strides in coaching, earning back-to-back promotions with UD Ourense before joining Lugo this summer. He claims that the team has been operating at a very high level since day one, advising them to keep working without becoming complacent.
Despite their impressive start, Fernández maintains that the team must stay grounded, echoing the club's motto, "Esto es Lugo y aquí hay que sachar" (This is Lugo and we must work hard). So far, the team has only trailled once in a match and has achieved two wins in stoppage time, with over 3,500 fans attending their recent home match at Anxo Carro, an unusual turnout for the area. The season is just beginning, but the commitment and unity within the team are evident.
