Allegri emerges as top candidate for Napoli coaching role

Massimiliano Allegri emerged as the favourite for the Napoli coaching position following Vincenzo Italiano's departure from Bologna by mutual consent on May 28, 2026. Reports from Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia stated that Allegri now leads the race to replace Antonio Conte at Napoli.

Both Allegri and Italiano reportedly reached an agreement with Napoli, which is currently concluding its evaluations for a new coach. Allegri, the former AC Milan manager, looks set to step into the role after Italiano's exit, which Bologna confirmed after he spent two seasons with the club.

Concerns regarding Italiano’s entourage seemed to sway Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli's president, as the recent meeting between Italiano and Napoli in Rome was intended to stay confidential. This reportedly contributed to the decision to part ways.

Gianluca Di Marzio mentioned that discussions between Allegri’s representatives and Napoli are advancing, with the objective of finalizing the contract details for Allegri at Stadio Maradona, which is anticipated to run until June 2028.

With the coaching vacancy solidified, Napoli appears poised for a significant change as they look to reinforce their management structure moving forward.
