Bulls and Stormers reach Vodacom URC semi-finals as Lions exit

The Vodacom Bulls and DHL Stormers secured their places in the semi-finals of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship on Saturday with dominant home victories during an exciting quarter-final weekend. Meanwhile, the Fidelity Securedrive Lions ended their campaign in heartbreak against a formidable Leinster team in Dublin.

The results from the quarter-finals saw the Vodacom Bulls travel to Scotland for a clash with the top-seeded Glasgow Warriors at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on Saturday at 15h30. The DHL Stormers faced Leinster in Dublin at 18h30.

The Vodacom Bulls set the tone with a convincing 45-14 victory over Munster in Pretoria. The home side delivered a masterclass, scoring six tries to Munster's two. Early in the match, Embrose Papier scored the first try, quickly followed by Kurt-Lee Arendse. Munster responded with two tries during the second quarter, but the Bulls' forwards asserted their dominance and secured a 31-14 lead by halftime. In the second half, Papier scored again for his brace, and Stravino Jacobs rounded off the scoring to seal the victory.

The Stormers faced early pressure but quickly fought back, with André-Hugo Venter scoring from a maul and Ntuthuko Mchunu adding another try. Despite Cardiff scoring to bring the game closer, the Stormers maintained control, enabling Paul de Villiers to smash through for the deciding try.

The Lions initially played with enthusiasm, but Leinster showcased their ability to convert pressure into points, building an early lead. Though the Lions managed to score, including two tries from Henco van Wyk, it was insufficient as Leinster powered to a convincing win.
