Sir Keir Starmer hinted that there would be an extra bank holiday if England wins the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel's team was set to face Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday night. The final match was scheduled for Sunday, 19 July. Following the expected outcome, it was anticipated that Sir Keir Starmer would step down as prime minister the following day, opening the door for Andy Burnham to take his place.
Should England make it to the final, it was likely that the prime minister would attend the game, which could briefly delay the transfer of power. Regarding the notion of a bonus day off for the people of England in the event of the team's victory, Sir Keir said, "On the question of a bank holiday, I think I don’t want to jinx it, but ask me again if we get to the final." It was understood that the additional bank holiday would fall on the Friday following England's triumph, which would be on 24 July. However, there were still significant hurdles to overcome, including winning a quarter-final, a semi-final, and ultimately the final.
