If the Paraguayan players were watching this France-Sweden match from their screens, they witnessed the challenge that awaited them on Saturday at 21:00 UTC in Philadelphia. After all, while the Albirroja defied all odds by eliminating Germany in the Round of 16, they face a tougher challenge against this confident French team, known for its versatile attack and determination to go all the way. Sweden didn’t prove to be a significant threat, completely dominated by Didier Deschamps’ men, who displayed commanding control without exerting much effort.

The French team left their mark with this performance as prior to them, no other team had made it through the Round of 16 with such ease; other top teams struggled to earn their place in tense matches. The France team, in contrast, orchestrated the spectacle against a Sweden squad that was expected to be more menacing, thanks to a powerful offensive duo in Gyökeres and Isak.

Despite a compact 4-4-2 formation, frequently defending with eleven players, Graham Potter's men could not withstand the assault. Under a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, the Blues initially began the match cautiously but soon gained momentum, suffocating the Swedes and creating numerous opportunities from Digne and Barcola, before Mbappé's attempt to open the scoring was ruled offside.

After hitting the post, Mbappé finally made a breakthrough a minute before halftime following a short corner play. He navigated past his marker and scored, putting France ahead just before the break.

The second goal followed shortly after the restart, courtesy of a brilliant pass from Olise to Bradley Barcola, who clinically finished to double the lead in the 52nd minute. France maintained control throughout, while Sweden seemed focused on minimizing the damage rather than mounting a comeback.

Mbappé completed the scoring with his second goal in the 74th minute, following another well-placed pass from Olise. Despite Olise's numerous chances, he exited the match without a goal, replaced by Rayan Cherki, while Sweden finally registered their first real chance through Gyökeres, whose effort was saved by Mike Maignan.

The Blues will now head to their Round of 16 matchup in Philadelphia against Paraguay, a team that brings back good memories from the 1998 World Cup, where they secured a victory in a similar knockout stage.
