Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, the Exeter Chiefs wing, has been cleared to play in Saturday's Premiership final against Northampton, marking a significant boost for the team. The 23-year-old athlete, who suffered a facial fracture during Exeter's victory over Leicester at the end of May, declared himself fit for the season decider at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham (15:00 BST) after receiving clearance from the England medical team.
"England have been fully behind Manny making the call," stated Rob Baxter, the Chiefs' director of rugby. Baxter added that everyone involved, including the surgeon, has provided Feyi-Waboso with the necessary information regarding his condition.
"That’s been fully assessed, and England have been very happy for Manny to make the decision. When it comes down to a close call, you usually leave it to the player, and that’s what has happened here. Manny has declared himself fit."
Feyi-Waboso participated in training, although he was exempt from contact drills. Baxter indicated that if selected, the winger had sufficiently healed and would not require any protective mask. "We’ve done very little this week, even in terms of grab tackling, so he’s been able to run around, run the patterns, run the shapes, and get on with most things, so he’s fully ready to go," Baxter mentioned.
Feyi-Waboso, who was part of a group of away fans supporting the team during their semi-final victory over Bath at the Rec, will be competing for a spot with teammates Paul Brown-Bampoe, Campbell Ridl, and Ben Hammersley. Additionally, back row Ethan Roots is available for selection after completing his return-to-play protocol following a head injury.
Exeter is set to announce their matchday 23 at midday on Friday, with Baxter preparing to finalize his selection on Thursday evening.
