Antonelli Leads as Russell Struggles in Miami GP

In the Miami Grand Prix, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli achieved his third consecutive victory from pole position, extending his lead over teammate George Russell to 20 points in the championship. Russell, who entered the season as a title contender, had a difficult weekend and finished fourth. The race saw world champion Lando Norris become the first non-Mercedes driver to win a race this season, marking a significant moment for McLaren with their upgrades.

During the race weekend, Russell acknowledged his struggles, stating, "It was a very tough race. The pace was really, really poor on my side." Antonelli clearly demonstrated an advantage all weekend long, a contrast to Russell's previous performances in earlier races. Russell expressed that he had the potential for better results in the past races, particularly in China where he faced car issues in qualifying and in Japan where a safety car hindered his racing strategy.

Despite the setback in Miami, Russell noted the fluctuating nature of the championship, saying, "The championship picture is no major cause for concern" as momentum can shift throughout the season. His team boss Toto Wolff reiterated Russell’s competitive spirit, emphasizing that Russell’s analytical skills would help him rebound. Wolff remarked, "George wouldn’t be a grand prix winner if he wasn’t a killer. He analyses them, looks at the data, comes to his conclusions."

Looking ahead, Russell is eager to return to form as the season progresses and eyes the racing event in Montreal, hopeful for improved performance.
