Modric extends contract with AC Milan until 2027

Luka Modric, the Croatian midfielder, has extended his contract with AC Milan by one season, the Serie A club announced on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Modric, who will celebrate his 41st birthday in less than two months, has committed to the Italian heavyweights until June 30, 2027. He initially joined AC Milan in 2025 and scored two goals in 37 matches during the previous season.

In a statement, AC Milan described Modric as "one of the finest and most iconic players in world football," highlighting his continued significance to the team. Modric was a finalist at the 2018 World Cup with the Croatian national team, also winning the Ballon d'Or in the same year. He enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid from 2012 to 2025, where he won six Champions League titles.

During the recent World Cup, Modric led Croatia to the round of 32, where they were eliminated after a dramatic match against Portugal.

AC Milan, having finished fifth in Serie A after a disappointing season, have made significant changes, including appointing former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Massimiliano Allegri. The club has also strengthened its squad by signing Portuguese centre-forward Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain for over 70 million euros ($80 million) and Spanish defender Mario Gila from Lazio for 30 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
