Caitlin Clark injured: Indiana Fever provide no update

Newsroom

Caitlin Clark exited Wednesday night's Indiana Fever loss against the Phoenix Mercury with an injury midway through the third quarter. According to the Fever, it was a back injury, and Clark did not return to play. She appeared to tweak her back on a second-quarter 3-point attempt where she was fouled by Mercury forward Valeriane Ayayi. Clark fell to the ground and was rubbing her back as she stood up.

The 6-foot Fever superstar had also gone back into the tunnel during the first quarter and returned to the bench wearing a wrap around her back. In the postgame briefing, Fever head coach Stephanie White stated that she had "no current update" on Clark's back, which had been lost amidst other discussions during her press conference.

White emphasized the need for the team to ensure Clark's health, stating, "It's a long season, we got to make sure that she's healthy. As far as adjustments, it's like next player up, you know. Ty (Harris) has got to be ready to play some more minutes, obviously Raven (Johnson) has to be ready. We've got to take on a little bit more collectively, I think."

Clark finished the game with 19 points, eight assists, and one steal on 5-of-9 shooting, making 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Throughout the 2026 WNBA season, Clark had been dealing with a back injury. Entering the Wednesday matchup, she had been listed as probable with a back ailment in each of the past 13 Indiana games on the Fever's day-before injury report.

After the Fever host the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, they are set to have a full week off before returning to action on Sunday, July 5, at Las Vegas.
