Cameron Norrie Advances to Los Cabos Quarter-finals

Cameron Norrie secured his spot in the Los Cabos Open quarter-finals after achieving a straight-set victory over James Duckworth in Mexico. The British number two triumphed against Australia’s Duckworth with a score of 6-4, 6-4, which set the stage for a matchup against former top-20 player Bernard Tomic in the last eight. Norrie, who recently ended a six-match losing streak with a first-round victory over Aleksandar Kovacevic, fought back from a 3-0 deficit to take the first set against Duckworth.

In the second set, Norrie broke Duckworth’s serve twice to surge ahead 5-2. Despite a late struggle, he managed to serve for the match and claimed victory. As the fifth seed, Norrie is currently the second-highest ranked player remaining in the tournament after top seed Jiri Lehecka was defeated by Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong. Meanwhile, Bernard Tomic stunned fourth seed Karen Khachanov.

In other matches, Naomi Osaka maintained her impressive form by advancing past Ashlyn Krueger to reach the quarter-finals of the Washington Open. The third seed, who was competing for the first time since reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals, dominated her match and led 6-3, 3-1 before Krueger retired due to an ankle injury. Osaka is set to face Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto in her third consecutive quarter-final.

Additionally, in the men’s singles event, 17-year-old Cruz Hewitt will meet top seed Alex de Minaur in the last 16. Hewitt, son of former world number one Lleyton Hewitt, previously played with De Minaur, who is a decade older. He made a successful debut in the main singles draw by defeating Marcos Giron from the United States with a score of 6-3, 6-4, while De Minaur overcame Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Former world number four Jack Draper withdrew late from the Washington tournament due to discomfort in his left arm but has received a wildcard entry into the Canadian Open. Novak Djokovic also withdrew from the Montreal tournament but is expected to participate in the Cincinnati Masters next month.
