Dale Earnhardt Jr. issued an apology after Carson Kvapil performed a burnout across the Yard of Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, igniting a debate over the appropriateness of the celebration. Kvapil, a driver for JR Motorsports, celebrated his first win in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series on July 25, 2026, by leaving black tire marks on the storied bricks. Although NASCAR had sent a reminder regarding the restriction of burnouts on the iconic stretch, Kvapil did not receive the message. Following the race, he explained in a press conference that he had been unplugged from his radio and was unaware of the warning. "I looked at that about 20 minutes after the race and I was like, uh, probably wasn't good," Kvapil admitted, acknowledging his oversight.

Earnhardt addressed the incident on social media, stating, "Our apologies. The driver was unplugged from his radio when NASCAR sent the reminder. Lots going on when that all went down. Certainly regret any inconvenience." Following the celebration, workers at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway promptly began cleaning the historic bricks, which drew attention from local news, including reporter Angela Moryan from WISH-TV8, who shared a video of the cleanup efforts.

Some fans recalled that Kvapil was not the first to disregard this unwritten rule at IMS, citing similar instances involving NASCAR luminaries such as Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson, both of whom performed burnouts on the bricks during their victories and received backlash from fans and the speedway management. Despite the mixed feelings about his celebration, Kvapil remains part of a notable club of drivers who have celebrated there historically.
