On Saturday, 11th July 2026, the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) convened at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Asaba to discuss significant issues concerning football in Nigeria. The committee reached several resolutions during the meeting.

1) The Executive Committee expressed its gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for Nigeria hosting the CAF Ordinary General Congress and the CAF Awards Ceremony. This decision followed a meeting with Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), at the Africa Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2026. The committee also acknowledged Dr. Motsepe and the CAF leadership for providing Nigeria the opportunity to host these key events.

2) The committee conveyed appreciation to the Federal Government and the National Sports Commission for the special intervention fund allocated to enhance the Nigeria Premier Football League. This initiative aims to elevate the league’s profile and commercial value, fostering a robust football economy in Nigeria. Additionally, they urged the government to extend similar support to the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nigeria Nation-Wide League One (NLO).

3) Furthermore, the committee applauded the National Sports Commission's announcement of full backing for the NFF in enforcing Club Licensing regulations strictly.

4) The committee acknowledged Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Sheriff Oborevwori, for agreeing to host the President Federation Cup grand finale and praised the hospitality of the Delta State residents toward all football stakeholders during the event.

5) The Executive Committee recognized the establishment of a Welfare Committee for the Super Falcons ahead of the 14th Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from 26th July to 16th August 2026, urging the team to strive for victory and secure a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

6) They also challenged the U20 girls, Falconets, to aim for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup title in Poland in September 2026, reminding them of Nigeria's previous silver medal finishes in 2010 and 2014.

7) The committee congratulated the U17 Women's National Team, Flamingos, for qualifying for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals after defeating their Beninese counterparts with a score of 5-3 in Lome, Togo, affirming Nigeria's aggregate victory of 8-5 in the qualifying series.

8) Additionally, they welcomed Nigeria's restoration to the CAF A-License Convention and encouraged Nigerian coaches to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the NFF to expand their knowledge.

9) Lastly, the Executive Committee formed an interim Board to oversee Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues in Nigeria, comprising Mr. Mahmud Hadejia (Chairman) and six additional members.

The meeting was attended by various NFF members and absentees provided apologies.
