Starc's Ten Wickets Lead Australia to Victory Over Bangladesh

Australia defeated Bangladesh in the second Test by an innings and 51 runs, with Mitchell Starc achieving a remarkable feat of taking 10 wickets in the match. This victory allowed Australia to bounce back from their unexpected loss to Bangladesh in the previous week, thus leveling the series at 1-1.

In the second Test held at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, Australia bowled out Bangladesh for an astonishing 95 runs in their second innings, with Starc claiming four wickets. Nathan Lyon and captain Pat Cummins each contributed three wickets, completing the match just after tea on the second day.

Starc's domination began with the first innings, where he took 6 wickets for just 12 runs, leading to Bangladesh's total collapse at 64 all out. His match figures of 10 for 51 were pivotal in the game, which concluded in just 125 overs, making it one of the four shortest completed Test matches in history.

Prior to this encounter, Bangladesh had shocked the cricketing world by defeating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin. Cummins, reflecting on the turnaround, remarked, "A lot of things went right these couple of days and a lot of things went wrong last week. We needed to bounce back... It was a great couple of days from the lads."

Australia managed to add 45 runs to their overnight score, finishing their first innings at 210 runs. Cameron Green was the top scorer with 67 runs, while Lyon contributed an unbeaten 32. Shoriful Islam proved to be a standout bowler for Bangladesh, recording impressive figures of 7 for 48.

Bangladesh's second innings began poorly, losing their openers quicky, and they were in dire straits at 24 for 3. They failed to recover from this early loss, ending up at 95 for 8 before Lyon secured victory by claiming the last two wickets.

Starc, who was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series with a total of 12 wickets at an impressive average of 12.08, stated, "Much better week. We knew we weren’t at our best, or what we expect of ourselves, in Darwin. What we expect of ourselves this week is what we got, particularly with the ball."

With this latest win, Starc advanced to 10th place on the all-time Test wicket list with 445 wickets, trailing Nathan Lyon, who holds sixth place with 571 wickets. Australia’s next Test series will be a three-match tour against world Test champions South Africa in October.
