Brody McDonald and Marlies Mejías earned omnium titles at the Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic, securing consistent podium finishes over the two-day event held on May 30 and May 31, 2026.
In this weekend of racing, both riders showcased their skills at the Capitol Cup in Washington, D.C., and the Clarendon Cup in Arlington, Virginia. Mejías, racing for Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY28/Deloitte, sprinted to second place in both races, thereby clinching the overall women's title. Similarly, McDonald, representing Modern Adventure Pro Cycling, garnered two third-place finishes to secure the overall men's omnium title.
This marked the second consecutive omnium title for Mejías at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic. "Winning the omnium is always special because it reflects the strength of the whole team across the entire weekend. Of course, finishing second both days leaves us hungry, as racers, we always want to win, but I am proud of how we raced together, controlled the race, and kept fighting until the end," Mejías commented in a team statement.
The women's division saw Kendall Ryan (Caldera Medical x Aurea Racing) win on the second day after finishing second the year prior. Following her second-place finish on the previous day, Ryan dedicated her victory to her late grandfather, a former Marine. "There are a lot of emotions right now. I found out that my grandpa died a couple of days ago. He was in the Marine Corps, so this [win] is to honor him," she told organizers.
Skylar Schneider (L39ION of Los Angeles) completed the podium, finishing third overall in the omnium standings after her major victory in the Capitol Cup.
The Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic, organized by Arlington Sports, has been a staple event in the Washington, D.C. region for 28 years. Besides the elite men’s and women’s professional races, amateur cyclists also participated over the two-day event, making it a celebration of cycling in the nation’s capital. This year’s races returned after Memorial Day weekend, continuing the long-standing tradition of competitive cycling in the area.
