Gary Neville Critiques Chelsea's Owners After Rosenior's Exit

In a recent outburst, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has taken aim at Chelsea's ownership after the abrupt dismissal of manager Liam Rosenior, who lasted just three months in charge. The announcement came shortly after a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton, which left Chelsea's hopes of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread. This loss marked a record fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring, a first for the club since 1912.

Neville expressed his surprise at the timing of Rosenior's sacking, stating, "I am not shocked that Liam is leaving the club. I am shocked he is leaving today; I thought it would probably happen at the end of the season." He emphasized that the decision should not reflect poorly on Rosenior, who he believes was left to deal with the consequences of a failing team.

"The coach always takes the hit; they know they’re the ones who get sacked. It’s easier to move a coach out than it is to move 25 players," Neville explained. He criticized the club's owners for their mismanagement, saying, "The owners are getting it really badly wrong there, let's be clear. They’ve got a group of talented players, but ownership that’s relatively young and inexperienced. You need some experience somewhere in the club."

Neville also pointed out the lack of clarity in Chelsea's long-term strategy, particularly criticizing the club's tendency to offer lengthy contracts to both players and managers. "These six-year, eight-year agreements are laughable from the start. The owners haven’t got a clue what they’re doing," he remarked.

As Chelsea now sits seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, with the team struggling to find form, Neville defended Rosenior, suggesting he should move on quickly from this chapter. "Pretend the last 107 days never happened, go and get another job at a club you can trust," he advised.

He concluded by stating that the fans deserve better and that the way the situation has unfolded reflects poorly on the club's ownership. "The fans will be disgusted by the way this has gone. It’s just not right. It’s a reflection upon you [the owners] when you get it wrong," Neville added.
