Pitso Confidently Predicts CAF Champions League Outcome

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane predicted that Sundowns would win this season’s CAF Champions League trophy. Sundowns faced Morocco’s ASFAR over two legs in the final tie that started on May 14, 2026, at home, with the second leg scheduled away in Rabat in seven days. This marked the 2016 African champions’ second final in as many seasons, and their coach Miguel Cardoso’s third in a row, while it was ASFAR’s first appearance in the final in 41 years. Mosimane, who delivered Sundowns’s only star a decade ago, spoke to iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 255 of the newspaper, stating that the Brazilians had the players for the task and a highly motivated coach. “Sundowns will win. No question about it,” Mosimane declared. “They have the players to win, right? And the coach has gained confidence from those two finals. Now he believes that he can win. But why shouldn’t they win it now? But if you don’t win it now…” Mosimane noted that while the Moroccans were an organized side, Sundowns could rely on their experience of winning the Cup, asserting that their quality surpassed what he had in 2016. “Yeah, but the team they’re playing doesn’t have the experience of winning the Champions League. It’s not such a big team. Of course, it’s an organized team. And that could be the problem also,” he elaborated. “You know, the Champions League is like that. When you have organization, you’re okay. But I’m saying… remember I won this thing with a team that does not compare to this current Sundowns one. “I had Wayne Arendse, Tiyani Mabunda, and Asavela Mbekile. Let’s be honest, those are the guys I took to the final. And then look at this current squad.
