Super Falcons Emphasize Intensity Against Senegal

The Super Falcons opted for a more intense approach in their second international friendly match against Senegal's Lionesses, which was scheduled for Monday. After a closely contested battle in Ikenne-Remo on Friday, Head Coach Justine Madugu stated on Sunday that the 10-time African champions would be more intentional in their play. This match took place at the iconic Remo Stars Sports Complex, as both teams prepared for the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations, set to begin next month in Morocco.

In the first friendly, the Falcons secured a 2-1 victory, with goals coming from Asisat Oshoala (penalty) and midfielder Toni Payne, while Senegal scored one goal four minutes before the end of regulation time. In their previous encounter in 2016, the Super Falcons defeated the Lionesses 3-1 on aggregate during a qualifying fixture for the Women Africa Cup of Nations, having drawn the first leg 1-1 and winning the second leg with two unanswered goals.

During the tournament in Morocco, the Falcons will strive for a record-extending 11th title while competing in Group C against Egypt, Zambia, and debutants Malawi. Senegal will be placed in Group A, facing hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya. The tournament is planned from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco and will also serve as the qualifying round for the next year's FIFA Women's World Cup finals. The top four teams will qualify directly for Brazil, while the fifth-placed team will engage in an intercontinental playoff tournament for a chance at the finals.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe were active in midfield during the match against Senegal on Friday.
