Bologna secures Amondarain for €10m

Bologna reached a full agreement with Estudiantes and midfielder Mikel Amondarain on July 23, 2026, despite interest from Nottingham Forest. Negotiations had been ongoing for a few weeks, with Bologna also considering alternatives including Gustavo Puerta of Racing Santander. Nottingham Forest made an attempt to interrupt the discussions, which prompted Bologna to proceed with securing Amondarain. According to Bologna director Claudio Fenucci, the club was awaiting a response from Estudiantes earlier in the week, affirming that Amondarain was their primary target for the midfield.

The transfer fee is reported to be around €10 million, following an initial bid of €8 million that was rejected. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that a verbal agreement was reached with Estudiantes regarding the transfer and with Amondarain concerning personal terms. As part of the process, Amondarain is expected to complete his medical tests and sign the contract over the weekend.

The 21-year-old talent has been contracted with Estudiantes until December 2028, having advanced through their youth academy and joined the first team last year.
