Julio Rodríguez seals Mariners' comeback with walk-off

SEATTLE -- After a sluggish start to the second half of the season, the Mariners found their rhythm in a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Giants on Saturday afternoon, clinching the win in 10 innings. They participated in a game that had them lifeless for the first game-and-a-half out of the break. Cole Young provided a jolt to the Mariners’ offense with a three-run, game-tying homer in the seventh inning off Logan Webb, marking the right-hander’s return after being selected to Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

In the 10th inning, Julio Rodríguez delivered a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in automatic runner Victor Robles, who advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Colt Emerson. This game marked Rodríguez’s return after being sidelined with a concussion since July 2. Both moments were significant for an offense that had been in dire need of a boost, especially following a disappointing 1-5 road trip through Florida prior to the break.

Before Young’s homer, Seattle had managed only one hit over the previous 14 innings, which included a 7-0 loss the night before. The Mariners turned things around in the seventh inning; Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch, and Josh Naylor walked on four pitches, setting the stage for Young’s critical blast, his 12th home run of the season. The homer erased a three-run deficit, as Bryan Woo, the starting pitcher, had given up two solo homers earlier in the game, one to Rafael Devers and another to Willy Adames.
